About ICFS²
The 1st International Conference on Fire Safety & Structures — a landmark event for fire safety engineering in Sri Lanka and the region.
About the Conference
The Centre for Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura is a state-of-the-art research facility dedicated to advancing the science and practice of fire safety in structures. As the first specialized fire research center in Sri Lanka, it serves as a national hub for research, testing, and innovation in fire safety engineering. The Centre officially commenced its services in 2026, marking a significant milestone in the country’s commitment to improving structural fire safety.
The International Conference on Fire Safety and Structures (ICFS2) is the inaugural international conference organized by the Centre. The primary objective of the conference is to bring together international and local experts in fire safety engineering to share knowledge, present research findings, and discuss emerging challenges and solutions in the field.
The University of Sri Jayewardenepura, through its Centre for Fire Safety Engineering, is proud to host this conference in collaboration with local and international universities, academics, governing bodies, and industry. The conference is led by General Chair Prof. Chaminda Konthesingha, Director of the Centre for Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The Co-Chairs are Prof. Mohd Fadzil Bin Arshad (Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia), Associate Prof. Keerthan Poologanathan (Northumbria University, UK), and Emeritus Prof. Anura Nanayakkara (University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka). Held in parallel with World Fire Safety Day, the conference also aims to raise awareness of fire safety engineering practices and their importance within the country. ICFS2 provides a valuable platform to foster knowledge exchange, strengthen professional networks, and promote safer and more resilient built environments.
